President Hakainde Hichilema emphasized the strategic importance of this initiative, highlighting its role in alleviating the impact of the current drought and advancing Zambia’s renewable energy agenda. Through his special assistant for economic, financial, investment, and development, Jito Kaumba, President Hichilema praised the Green Giant Zambia project as a crucial element of the country’s renewable energy strategy.
“This agreement has the potential to greatly expand renewable capacity, addressing both present and future energy demands,” noted President Hichilema.
Victor Mapani, ZESCO’s Managing Director, echoed the President’s sentiments, affirming the company’s steadfast commitment to positioning Zambia as a hub for renewable energy. Mapani stressed that the partnership with Sky Power Global exemplifies ZESCO’s dedication to sustainable transformation.
He also highlighted the positive socio-economic impact of the initiative, mentioning that the Green Giant Zambia project aims to provide electricity to approximately 4 million homes and create significant employment opportunities, particularly for the youth.
