ZESCO Limited has announced its decision to import electricity, starting from May 1st, 2024, to bolster the national power supply amidst decreased generation caused by low water levels.
According to the company’s spokesperson, Matongo Maumbi, the imported electricity will make up roughly 20 percent of the overall available power for a minimum duration of 12 months.
Maumbi clarified that ZESCO will have limited authority over the consistency and timing of the imported electricity. Despite efforts to uphold current load shedding timetables, he acknowledged the potential for unexpected interruptions originating from the external source.M
