As Zambia celebrates another year in the life of First Lady Mutinta Hichilema, there’s an extra gleam of pride in the air – news of her inclusion among Africa’s top five most respected first ladies has brought an additional layer of honor to the occasion.
This recognition comes from Decent Magazine, a publication based in Uganda, which conducted a comprehensive survey in 2024 assessing the public engagements of first ladies over the past year. Janet Museveni of Uganda clinched the top spot with an impressive score of 8.3 out of 10.
Zambia’s First Lady, Mutinta Hichilema, secured the second position with a commendable score of 7.1 out of 10, hailed as a beacon of decency and advocacy. According to the magazine, her score reflects her dignified demeanor, unwavering dedication to community development, and vocal support for religious tolerance and social justice.
The judges emphasized the importance of enhancing Mutinta’s online presence to amplify her advocacy efforts.
This prestigious list acknowledges the grace, dignity, and impactful leadership demonstrated by these esteemed women. Decent Africa assembled a panel of 26 judges to evaluate the first ladies’ fashion sense, with each element of decency in their attire scored on a scale of 1 to 10.
Other notable first ladies on the list include Rebbeca Akufo Addo of Ghana in third place, followed by Fatima Jabbe-Bio of Sierra Leone and Dominique Quattara of Ivory Coast. Rachel Ruto of Kenya secured the sixth position, with Jeannette Kagama of Rwanda following closely in seventh.
The list also features Ichraf Saïed of Tunisia, Nigeria’s Remi Tinubu, and, rounding out the top ten, Tshepo Motsepe of South Africa.
