Politician and leader of the Forum For Democracy (FDD) party, Edith Nawakwi, has been arrested for seditious practices.
Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said the offense was serious because it involved actions intended to incite rebellion against the authority of the state.
Nawakwi’s arrest follows her statement on May 25 alleging that the state of the Republic of Zambia had abducted Emmanuel Banda, a member of parliament who was reported missing in the early hours of Saturday and has since resurfaced.
Activist Brebner Changala, who made similar remarks, was slapped with the same charge yesterday and is detained by the police.
Police say both will appear in court soon to defend their accusations.
