Lawyer and former Law Association of Zambia president James Banda has been installed as the new chairman of the Energy Regulation Board (ERB).
Banda replaces Reynolds Bowa who was removed from the position after the board hiked gas prices by up to 15% for some fuels and simultaneously ratified an earlier approved increase in electricity tariffs in the middle of a scathing power shortage and bitingly high cost of living. This was apparently done without the blessing of the Ministry of Energy.
Banda previously served as the vice-chairperson of the ERB board. His legal specialties include construction and energy law.
A certified arbitrator, Banda currently serves as a Commissioner of the Small Claims Court in Zambia.
