Police await his hospital discharge to proceed with formalities
The Zambia Police Service has today received a letter of complaint from Emmanuel Jay Banda identifying certain individuals in his alleged abduction a few weeks ago.
Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga has said that in his previous statement to the police, Banda did not provide any details regarding the events of his purported abduction on May 25.
In light of this development, where Banda has named individuals, Hamoonga said the police are waiting for Banda’s discharge from Maina Soko Military Hospital after which he will be required to lodge a formal complaint and provide a detailed statement.
He said this process is necessary for the police to proceed with any potential criminal investigation.
Banda has twice been taken to the police station to be interviewed about his alleged abduction but has fainted and “developed a medical condition” on both occasions before any progress could be made. At his initial appearance, the police reported that he had given no information as to the May 25 incident.
Meanwhile, his lawyers and cheerleaders have been dropping names of certain individuals, including two State House staffers, as being involved in his disappearance. The duo has since moved to take legal action against Banda and others deemed complicit in these allegations.
