The United States of America has given more than US$3 billion in development aid to Zambia in 60 years.
Minister of Tourism Rodney Sikumba has disclosed that this makes the U.S. Zambia’s largest bilateral donor.
In 2024, America’s bilateral assistance to Zambia is expected to exceed US$505 million.
The U.S. assists Zambia’s economic and social development agenda through various agencies and programs. This assistance has been going on since Zambia’s independence in 1964.
Sikumba said Zambia acknowledges the excellent bond of friendship and cooperation between the two countries and reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to further strengthening the bilateral and multilateral cooperation for mutual benefit.
He was speaking during a combined celebration of America’s Independence Day, which falls on July 4, and 60 years of bilateral relations with Zambia.
The event was held yesterday, July 12, in Lusaka. The American government was represented by Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Linnisa Wahid.
