ZESCO to Commission Second Kabwe-Pensulo Transmission Line

Must read

ZESCO has completed the construction of a second transmission line to bolster power supply to Zambia’s northern region.

Spokesperson, Matongo Maumbi, said in a statement notifying outages to facilitate the line’s technical commissioning that the second critical 330 kilovolts transmission line connects the Kabwe Step-down substation to Pensulo substation in Serenje, and establishes an additional power transmission corridor to Muchinga, Luapula, Northern, Eastern, and Central provinces.

“The new transmission line significantly enhances power transmission capacity to these five provinces, eliminating the annual power outages previously experienced during maintenance work on the existing line,” noted Maumbi.

The line is also critical to the planned Zambia-Tanzania-Kenya interconnector, which will link the Southern African and East African power pools to open new power trading opportunities between the two markets.

To facilitate the new line’s technical commissioning, ZESCO has scheduled power supply outages in the five affected provinces on 16 and 19 June.
