Defending champions Zambia will face Zimbabwe and the Comoros in its defence of the COSAFA Cup title.
Yesterday’s draw placed the Chipolopolo in Group B and a chance to renew its rivalry with neighbor Zimbabwe as the Warriors of Zimbabwe return to the tournament after last year’s absence due to a FIFA ban.
In a replay of last year, the record seven-time champions will again face the Comoros. The fourth contender in the group will be known later.
Group B is incomplete as COSAFA decides on a replacement for Malawi, who have excused themselves from the tournament to mourn their recently deceased Vice President Saulos Chilima and eight other government officials, and for whom the country is observing 21 days of mourning.
Chipolopolo local coach Moses Sichone will again take the team to the tournament and is today expected to name his squad comprising local players only.
The 2024 HollywoodBets COSAFA Cup tournament is scheduled to get underway from June 26 through to July 7 in South Africa’s coastal city of Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape Province.
