..FAZ president tasks Avram Grant to reassess Chipolopolo’s back-to-back defeats
Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Andrew Kamanga says he expects Chipolopolo coach Avram Grant and his technical bench to analyse the team’s performance following the back-to-back defeats against Morocco and Tanzania in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Chipolopolo succumbed to a 2-1 defeat away to Morocco before being handed a shocking 1-0 loss by Tanzania in front of the home fans at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium. The losses have dimmed the team’s chances of bagging a historic maiden World Cup qualification.
In his weekly column on the official FAZ platform, Kamanga writes that he expects the technical bench to ensure that the team improves and delivers better results in the rest of the World Cup qualification campaign.
“Finally, we are saddened by the two losses that the Chipolopolo suffered in the Group E FIFA World Cup qualifiers. We definitely could have done better. The race is not over yet as we have to fight for every point we can get along the way,” Kamanga wrote.
“We expect the technical bench to review the two matches and ensure that we improve in the upcoming fixtures.”
Meanwhile, Kamanga says the Chipolopolo will now set their eyes on the upcoming Morocco 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers starting in September.
“We also have our sights on the AFCON qualifiers that kick off in a few months with the draw set for July 4. We have our eyes set on another AFCON appearance to sustain our presence on the continental stage,” he stated.
Kamanga has also expressed gratitude to the home fans for their support and urged them not to stop rallying behind the national team.
“We wish to thank the thousands of fans that continue to fill up stadia for our international matches. Let’s not relent in our support for our national teams as they will be obliged to reciprocate with good results.”
