In an emotional turn of events, Kalabo Member of Parliament broke down in tears during a heated session of the National Assembly on Tuesday. The MP, representing the United Party for National Development (UPND), was overwhelmed after the Minister of Energy announced that the government has no immediate plans to construct a fueling station in his constituency.
This announcement struck a deep chord, highlighting the disparities in infrastructure development between urban and rural areas.
The lawmaker passionately argued that the government should shift its focus from further developing urban areas, which already boast abundant infrastructure, to prioritizing rural regions that lack basic amenities.
He emphasized that the rural communities, such as those in his Kalabo constituency, are in dire need of essential facilities like fueling stations, which are crucial for their economic and social development.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Chinga Miyutu echoed these sentiments, stressing that the rural communities should be viewed through the same lens as urban areas when it comes to development. He called for a balanced approach to national development, ensuring that every part of the country benefits equally from government projects and initiatives.
