President Hakainde Hichilema has held bilateral talks with His Majesty King Charles III at Buckingham Palace in London.
The head of state said the duo reaffirmed the two countries’ deep relations against the backdrop of Zambia’s 60th independence anniversary.
“Since taking over the leadership of the country in 2021, our government has focused on a foreign policy based on economic diplomacy meant to fully open up the country for increased investment and trade,” he said.
President Hichilema is visiting Scotland and England for bilateral talks. An itinerary shared on his departure stated that while in the United Kingdom, he would meet with the First Minister of Scotland, John Swinney.
He will also visit Heriot-Watt University and the Blavatnik School of Government at Oxford University, where he will “engage with eminent individuals and investors in mining, agriculture, and energy.”
President Hichilema will also deliver a keynote address at a conference organized by the Rhodes Trust Zambia Constituency at Oxford University on the theme “Standing up for Zambia: Zambia at 60”.
Zambia gained its independence from British colonialism in 1964 and will, on October 24, celebrate its diamond jubilee as an independent sovereign nation.
