State House Chief Communications Specialist Clayson Hamasaka has dismissed as mischievous “insinuations and attempts to drag President Hichilema into the ongoing PF leadership wrangles.”
In a statement, Hamasaka says it has never been Mr. Hichilema’s interest to interfere in how other political parties conduct their business.
He said President Hichilema’s views on by-elections are well known.
Hamasaka stated that there was no way the head of state could interfere with the independent arms of government, such as Parliament and the Judiciary.
“If he were to attempt to interfere with the provisions of the constitution, the same people accusing him would turn around and accuse him again,” he stated.
He added that laws regarding by-elections are beyond the president.
There has been unending drama in the PF, with expulsions and counter-expulsions. Nine of its members of Parliament lost their seats in the National Assembly after the Second Deputy Speaker declared their seats vacant yesterday.
The nine were expelled by one of the PF presidency claimants, Miles Sampa, who only a few days ago reconciled with the party’s preceding president Edgar Lungu, putting into motion the still unfolding chaos.
