The Bank of Zambia (BoZ) says it did not issue the public notice circulating on social media that it is in the process of phasing out cheques as an instrument of payment.
Assistant Director – Communications Besnat Mwanza said in a July 8 statement that while the central bank was currently discussing the possibility of phasing out cheques, those stakeholder consultations were still going on.
“The Bank will accordingly issue a public statement once these engagements are concluded, and a decision is made,” said Mwanza and appealed to members of the public to ignore the circulating notice.
