Zambian international striker Fashion Sakala’s Saudi club has rewarded him for a stellar debut season with a new contract to keep him at the club till 2026.
The 27-year-old attacker has put pen to paper on a new two-year deal with Saudi Pro League side Al-Fayha. The club announced Tuesday that the new deal is valid until July, 2026.
“The Al-Fayha Club Board of Directors, led by Dr. Tawfiq Saleh Almodihem, has completed the procedures to extend the contract of professional player Fashion Sakala Junior with the first team for an additional season,” the club’s official statement reads.
The statement added that the club and the player had both expressed a strong desire to continue together and strengthen the squad, resulting in the signing of the new deal.
“This decision was made because both sides wanted to keep the team strong. Sakala is happy to stay with Al-Fayha, and his family enjoys living in Saudi Arabia, and playing in a top league that is getting better. He promised to work hard to make Al-Fayha fans happy and help the team reach its goals.”
Sakala joined Al-Fayha from Scottish Premiership side Rangers in August, 2023 in a deal worth £3 million. He soon after became an important player at the middle-east club.
In his debut season, Sakala scored 19 goals in 31 matches to spark interest from other Saudi Pro League clubs including Al-Ettifaq SC, managed by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, his former boss at Rangers.
Next season, Sakala is expected to play under the tutelage of a new manager. Al-Fayha has appointed Greek coach Christos Kontis as its new manager.
