The police have arrested some protesters who had showed up at ZESCO headquarters for a planned protest, which was not sanctioned by the police.
Seemingly taking a leaf from the recent Kenya youth protests, youths calling themselves the Protest Movement had planned to protest power rationing and ZESCO’s inability to stick to the set load shedding schedules. However, the police did not give them the greenlight, while ZESCO engaged them over the matter.
Despite the engagement and police reticence, they chose to continue with the protest. Some of those who showed up were arrested from the protest venue and taken to the Lusaka Central Police station.
