Biden Faces Increased Pressure from Leading Democrats as Covid Halts Campaign

Must read

President Joe Biden, who is currently experiencing a Covid-19 infection, has been urged by top Democrats to consider stepping aside due to his age. His campaign activities are on hold as he deals with the virus.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, two of the leading Democrats in Congress, have reportedly met with Biden to express their concerns about his candidacy. Additionally, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is said to have advised him that he cannot win against Donald Trump in the November election.

The White House announced on Wednesday night that the 81-year-old president is experiencing mild symptoms from his Covid infection. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed that Biden is vaccinated and boosted and has previously tested positive for Covid twice.

Earlier in the day, Biden was seen visiting supporters in Las Vegas and speaking at an event before canceling a scheduled campaign speech later that night. Jean-Pierre stated that the president would isolate at his Delaware home while continuing to perform his duties.

Dr. Kevin O’Connor, the president’s physician, noted that Biden exhibited upper respiratory symptoms, including a runny nose and cough, and had begun his first dose of Paxlovid. Dr. O’Connor mentioned that Biden felt fine during his initial event but later tested positive.

Biden thanked well-wishers on X/Twitter and affirmed his commitment to his work for the American people while recovering. In another tweet, he expressed frustration about “Elon Musk and his rich buddies trying to buy this election” and encouraged supporters to contribute through a donations portal.
