The Heath Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) has called for more training in the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the medical field.
Whilst appreciating the use of AI tools, HPCZ Registrar, Prof Fastone Goma says conducting training for medical practitioners for effective use of AI is vital.
Prof Goma observes that the use of AI in healthcare requires new skills and training for health professionals and regulatory authorities to understand and leverage AI tools effectively.
He notes that AI has provided real-time updates on compliance checks and monitoring, ensuring that healthcare providers adhere to regulations consistently.
Prof Goma made the remarks at a media briefing ahead of the 26th Association of Medical Councils of Africa (AMCOA) conference set for 11th to 15th August this year in Livingstone.
Meanwhile, Prof Goma explains that the AMCOA Conference is being hosted under the theme “Regulation in the Era of Artificial Intelligence”, adding that the theme is particularly timely for Zambia and the rest of Africa in building stronger and more resilient health systems.
Over 199 delegates from different parts of Africa and more than 200 locals will be attending the conference.
