A man from Kitwe’s Kawama Township set fire to nine family members, resulting in the death of his one-year-old grandson upon arrival at the hospital.
Eight of the family members sustained serious burns after the man burned down the house where they were sleeping.
Among those hospitalized at Kitwe Teaching Hospital are 56-year-old Beauty Mambwe, the suspect’s former wife, along with her children and grandchildren.
Ms. Mambwe told ZNBC News that her ex-husband was displeased with their divorce granted by the court and had threatened to harm his family.
The victims were brought to Kitwe Teaching Hospital with severe burns around 02:00 hours, as reported by hospital medical Superintendent Seke Kazuma, who stated that three of the patients are in critical condition and are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit.
