A businessman who previously issued a demand letter has taken legal action against Forum for Democracy and Development president Edith Nawakwi, seeking K2.5 million in compensation for defamation.
Kenneth Magaleta is suing for damages after being implicated by the politician in the abduction of farmers Pheluna and Milton Hatembo.
Prior to the lawsuit, Mr Magaleta had requested a retraction of the defamatory statements, an apology, and K2.5 million in damages for defamation, as stated in the demand letter.
Court documents show that the plaintiff is seeking damages for defamation as well as exemplary and punitive damages.
