In a heartwarming gesture, the First Lady’s Office has donated a wheelchair to 15-year-old Grace Kaluwani, a Grade 6 pupil at Bunda Bunda Primary School in Chongwe District. Kaluwani had been struggling to attend school using a wooden tricycle, a situation that drew the attention of Emmanuel Mubita, a concerned local resident.
In collaboration with the Merck Foundation, the First Lady’s Office also delivered an array of essential supplies to the school, including 6,000 exercise books, 1,700 school bags, and 3,334 storybooks.
Shelly Tayali, Technical Advisor to the First Lady, represented Mrs. Hichilema in the donation ceremony, highlighting that these resources are intended to support students lacking necessary educational materials.
Joseph Chanda, Chongwe District Education Board Secretary, expressed gratitude for the generous donation, acknowledging its positive impact on the community.
Grace Kaluwani expressed her heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Hichilema for the new wheelchair, which she believes will significantly ease her daily challenges.
