Bowman Lusambo, the former Minister for Lusaka Province and Kabushi member of parliament has, together with his wife Nancy Manase, been found with a case to answer in relation to charges of tax evasion, conspiracy to defraud, and possessing property suspected to be proceeds of crime.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Court this morning ruled that the husband-and-wife duo ought to prove that the properties in question were genuinely acquired and disprove the Anti-Corruption Commission’s (ACC) claim that it’s tainted.
The presiding magistrate was satisfied that the ACC’s case against Lusambo and Manase is sufficiently supported by evidence for her to put them on their defense.
The joint charges relate to four residential properties in Silverest Gardens. Lusambo also faces 10 other corruption-tinged charges including three for tax evasion, one conspiracy to defraud, five of possessing possibly criminally-acquired property, and one count of having corruptly acquired public property.
The couple will open its defense in August and is expected to call 15 witnesses and adduce sworn evidence.
