Recently convicted PF-aligned “businessman” Francis Muchemwa has lost the property over which he was sentenced to 3 years in jail in a forfeiture to the state.
Ruling in the forfeiture application today, Chief Resident Magistrate Davies Chibwili ordered that as the properties were proved to be proceeds of crime, they should be forfeited to the state.
Muchemwa was last week jailed for three years with hard labor after the prosecution proved before the Economic and Financial Crimes court that the various properties he possessed, worth K12 million, were proceeds of crime as he had no known income from which he could have legitimately acquired them.
He was also accused of failing to comply with tax laws and was ordered to pay ZESCO Limited more than K140,000 for having drawn a salary from the company or serve 9 months in jail.
