The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has issued a directive to all bars and nightclubs in Lusaka to soundproof their premises.
The LCC’s directive follows numerous complaints from the public about noise pollution stemming from the loud music played at bars and nightclubs throughout the city.
“The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has received numerous complaints regarding noise pollution from establishments such as bars and nightclubs playing loud music,” a statement issued by LCC Public Relations Officer Chola Mwamba reads.
“The council, during one of its recent management meetings, resolved that all bars, nightclubs, and liquor-licensed premises must ensure their premises are completely soundproof.”
The LCC also stated that playing loud music after 22:00 hours will be prohibited while the directive for all premises to be soundproofed is fully implemented.
The council recognized that noise pollution can have negative effects on the public, including health complications, and urged bar and nightclub owners to strictly adhere to the directive.
“It is important to note that noise pollution has serious effects on our communities, including hearing loss, stress, anxiety, depression, cardiovascular problems, and high blood pressure,” the statement explained.
“We urge all affected businesses to take immediate action to comply with this directive. Failure to do so may lead to closure, license revocation, or reclassification.”
