The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has charged more than 50 motorists on the Copperbelt for various traffic offenses in the last three days.
Acting Head of Public Relations Mukela Mangolwa has also expressed RTSA’s concern over low compliance levels to traffic regulations among motorists in the province.
In a statement today, Mangolwa said RTSA, in collaboration with the Zambia Police Service, had deployed officers around the country this Farmers’ Day weekend to ensure motorists’ compliance with traffic regulations.
During these operations, the Agency charged 47 drivers for driving with expired road tax, while 23 were found with expired driver’s licenses. Consequently, 55 motorists had their vehicles impounded.
Mangolwa reminded motorists to use roadworthy vehicles and adhere to all the stipulated guidelines including speed limits, and take the necessary safety precautions such as correctly using seatbelts and child restraints, and avoiding using mobile phones while driving.
