Francis Chipyoka, finance director at IBA, has retracted his Habeas Corpus petition, initially filed to expedite his court appearance regarding the murder of his boss, Guntila Muleya. Despite this reversal, Chipyoka, who faces murder charges alongside his alleged accomplices, will still be presented in court.
Chipyoka is charged with police constables Alex Zulu and Dokowe Mututsani, and civilian Samuel Dokowe. The indictment accuses them of conspiring to murder Muleya, with Chipyoka allegedly paying K650,000 to facilitate the crime due to Muleya’s interference in his purportedly corrupt dealings.
Sources have claimed that police reserve William Shawa has been exonerated of the murder charge, as he was reportedly only tasked with helping to ambush Muleya.
After his arrest on July 28, Chipyoka’s legal representation, led by Friday Mulenga Jr., had sought a writ of Habeas Corpus Ad Subjiciendum to ensure his prompt court appearance. However, in a recent turn of events, Chipyoka’s legal team has filed a notice of discontinuance in the Lusaka High Court, officially withdrawing the Habeas Corpus petition.
