2,000 Houses Coming…Zambia signs with Namibian company for construction

Must read

The government has signed a memorandum of understanding with a Namibian company to construct 2,000 houses in Lusaka to chip away at the country’s steep housing deficit.

Ongos Valley Development is expected to construct the housing units on land to be allocated in the Lusaka South Multi-Facility Economic Zone.

Albert Malama, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, said the housing development will be targeted at public workers and the general public.

Malama also said the project would be used as a template for building more similar houses in future.

Zambia’s housing deficit is estimated at 1.5 million units. To overcome that shortfall by 2030, the country must construct more than 200,000 units annually.

2,000 is, therefore, a minute fraction of the need. It is only 1 percent of the minimum required.
