The Zambian Premier League (ZPL) has announced that it has engaged Access Bank over the possibility of signing a sponsorship deal for the Womenโs Super Division.
The new ZPL board is seeking to secure sponsorship for the womenโs football league, which has had no sponsor since its inception.
Speaking after securing a new co-sponsorship deal from Access Bank for the 2024 Carling Black Label Samuel Zoom Ndhlovu Charity Shield today, Board CEO Joseph Chimpampwe said the ZPL was pursuing a sponsorship deal for the womenโs league through the bankโs W-Initiative.
โWe have also initiated discussions with Access Bank through their W-initiative to explore opportunities for sponsoring the women’s league,โ Chimpampwe said.
Meanwhile, Access Bank Managing Director Lishala Situmbeko has described the new co-sponsorship deal worth K300,000 as a milestone that also reiterates the bankโs commitment to supporting women in sport as well as other sectors.
โThis milestone is aligned with our commitment and support not only towards sport but also towards women across all sectors through the W-initiative, our banking proportion for women premised on capacity building, mentorship, and women empowerment with a focus on financial inclusion aimed at accelerating female entrepreneurship,โโ Situmbeko said.
He added, โOur collaboration exemplifies our dedication to supporting community initiatives and fostering development through sports. Our involvement in the Charity Shield aligns with our broader mission to promote inclusivity, unity, and opportunities for all.โ
For the first time in 67 years, this yearโs Charity Shield will have a womenโs category as Super Division champions Green Buffaloes Ladies take on National Womenโs League Choma Warriors tomorrow at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
