President Hakainde Hichilema has urged the Mukandakunda Royal Establishment to collaborate with the government in developing the Lunda Lubanza traditional ceremony into a tourist attraction.
Speaking when he attended this year’s event on Saturday, he observed the ceremony can help illustrate the country’s rich cultural diversity.
He said it was essential to pass on the cultural heritage to future generations as such ceremonies have the power to unite the nation.
“This year’s ceremony, which has brought together Lundas from Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia, coincides with our country’s 60th independence anniversary, aligning with our belief in embracing diversity to foster harmony and unity,” he said.
He noted the ceremony took place at a critical time in the country’s history, as the El Niño-induced drought has severely affected most parts of Zambia.
