The Zambia Police Service has granted bond to all individuals who were detained in connection with Petauke lawmaker Emmanuel ‘Jay Jay’ Banda’s escape.
The six suspects are facing charges for assisting a prisoner in escaping, police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga has announced in a statement.
Among the individuals released is one of Banda’s spouses, Lombe Chali.
After investigations into the circumstances of the escape, two police officers, Mfungwe Phineas and Kabole Benson, along with three prison officers named Sakala Moses, Nathan Mbao, and Musa Spider Zulu, were apprehended on August 12, 2024, and subsequently released.
Hamoonga said the suspects will be required to attend court proceedings soon to address the accusations against them.
Banda reportedly fled from Chipata General Hospital on August 4 while undergoing medical treatment.
