Tragic Mine Accident in Kasempa District Claims Three Lives

Zambia Police Service Public Relations Officer, Rae Hamoonga has confirmed reports of a tragic incident involving three illegal miners who died in a pit collapse at Mulopwe Metal Mining Limited in Kasempa District. In an issued statement he said the accident occurred at around 03:48 hours today, with the bodies discovered later by unknown individuals believed to be friends of the deceased.

The victims were identified as Gabriel Mukanzu, 28, from Makayi Village in Mwinilunga District; Jacob Chulu, 25, from Vubwi District; and Daniel, aged 27-30, from Solwezi District. All three sustained severe injuries and were found approximately 300 meters from the police camp.

The bodies have been transported to Mukinge Mission Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examinations. An inquiry has been initiated to investigate the circumstances of the deaths.

The Zambia Police Service extends condolences to the victims’ families and advises against engaging in illegal mining due to its inherent dangers. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
