Zambian international forward Patson Daka is expected to be out of action for months after sustaining an ankle injury, his club Leicester City have confirmed.
Daka limped off the field of play after sustaining an ankle sprain in Leicester’s 3-0 pre-season friendly defeat to French Ligue 1 side RC Lens last Saturday.
Leicester manager Steve Cooper has since confirmed the 25-year old marksman’s unavailability ahead of the Premier League season opener at home to Tottenham Hotspur on Monday.
“Patson [Daka] obviously is not great news,” Cooper said. “He suffered quite a serious ankle injury last week in the game in Lens and he is going to be out for a good few months.”
Cooper further revealed that the Chipolopolo talisman was set to undergo surgery on Friday.
“He’s having an operation today (Friday). That’s really unfortunate for him because he was looking good in pre-season,” he said.
Daka’s sidelining through injury will also be a huge blow for national team coach Avram Grant and the Chipolopolo with less than a month left to the opening 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Ivory Coast and Sierra Leone.
