The Japanese government has availed a $2 million emergency grant aid to Zambia to provide food assistance to regions heavily impacted by drought.
Japanese Counsellor and Deputy Chief of Mission, Mr. Satoshi Ominato, emphasized that the immediate aid is a response to the drought affecting approximately 84 districts nationwide.
This emergency grant aid aims to offer food assistance to vulnerable households in the most affected districts for a six-month period from August 2024 to January next year.
Ominato said that the funding will be directed through the World Food Programme (WFP) to enhance nutrition and food security in the affected areas, furthering progress toward Sustainable Development Goal number two by addressing food shortages and establishing support for sustainable livelihoods.
