Zambia’s flag bearers in this season’s CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup Red Arrows and Zesco United will receive $50,000 (K1.3 million) in financial support from CAF this season.
CAF has announced that it will for the first time render financial assistance to each club participating in the preliminary rounds of the continental competitions this season.
“In line with the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) President Dr Patrice Motsepe’s promise to improve club competitions and provide more financial assistance to clubs, the clubs participating in the Preliminary Stages of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup will receive USD 50 000 each,” CAF announced today on their official website cafonline.com .
“This is the first time CAF offers financial assistance to clubs in this stage of the competition. Previously, clubs needed to reach the group stages to be eligible to share the overall prize money.”
Both Arrows and Zesco are set to begin their continental football campaigns this weekend with preliminary round first leg encounters away to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets of Malawi and Dynamos of Zimbabwe respectively.
The two Zambian envoys will aim to reach the group stages of the two competitions where they could further earn at least US$700,000 (K18.2 million), for the Champions League, and $400,000 (K10.4 million) in the Confederation Cup respectively.
