The Lusaka Magistrate Court has rescheduled the judgment in the case against former Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo, who faces three counts of witness interference. The judgment, originally set for Thursday, has been postponed to September 19, 2024, by Lusaka Resident Magistrate Trevour Kasanda due to Mr. Lusambo’s reported illness.
Mr. Lusambo is charged with three counts of attempting to interfere with witnesses, in violation of the Penal Code Cap 87 of the laws of Zambia. The charges include allegations that between February 1, 2022, and April 30, 2022, Mr. Lusambo obstructed justice by preventing Cosmas Chalusa, Ernest Sumani, and Mundia Mataa from providing testimony.
Additionally, Mr. Lusambo is scheduled to begin his defense on August 19, 2024, in a separate case involving possession of properties alleged to be proceeds of crime. Lusaka Chief Resident Magistrate Davies Chibwili has set the defense date after receiving counter submissions from the Anti-Corruption Commission and Mr. Lusambo’s defense team, despite Mr. Lusambo’s absence due to illness.
Mr. Lusambo was previously found with a case to answer on July 31, 2024, regarding the possession of a single-story four-bedroom house and guest wing located in Lusaka’s Chamba Valley area. The property, alleged to have been acquired between May 1, 2015, and December 31, 2021, is believed to be the proceeds of crime.
