China has pledged to help Zambia address its hydropower generation deficit caused by drought. Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Han Jing announced that the upcoming Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit, set for September 4-6, 2024, will be pivotal for Zambia and Africa’s development.
In a statement in Lusaka, Han revealed that China will host the Zambia Power Development Forum in Beijing during the FOCAC Summit to explore solutions for Zambia’s ongoing power shortage. He highlighted China’s investment in building and upgrading 66,000 kilometers of power infrastructure over the past 25 years.
President Hakainde Hichilema will join the FOCAC Summit and the Power Development Forum, where key stakeholders from China’s power and financial sectors will collaborate on addressing Zambia’s energy challenges.
