The Lusaka High Court has issued a consent judgment regarding the retirement home of former President Levy Patrick Mwanawasa, located in Chongwe District.
The University of Lusaka had previously sued the state to claim the property, which it acquired from money lenders Esther Chipasi and Mustapha Kwabena Osuman for $2,199,000. The lenders had repossessed the house after the late Maureen Mwanawasa defaulted on a K1.2 million loan, using the property as collateral.
Under the terms of the consent judgment, the University of Lusaka will return the property’s certificate of title to the state. In exchange, the state will provide the university with an alternative piece of land in Chongwe District.
