President Hakainde Hichilema has expressed pleasure at holding bilateral discussions with the Shaanxi Provincial delegation, led by Zhao Gang, Deputy Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Shaanxi Provincial Committee and Governor of Shaanxi Province.
President Hichilema highlighted the deepening comprehensive strategic partnership between Zambia and the People’s Republic of China, noting their cooperation in development, trade, and cultural exchanges. He emphasized Zambia’s interest in learning from China’s experience, particularly in managing challenges like drought, which has affected Zambia’s food and energy security.
The President outlined Zambia’s goal to transition from rain-fed agriculture to advanced water harvesting and precision irrigation techniques, as well as from hydro to solar power and green energy, areas where China has demonstrated significant progress.
Impressed by China’s rapid economic development, Hichilema expressed a desire to adopt innovative approaches and leverage China’s expertise to enhance Zambia’s growth. He reaffirmed Zambia’s support for China’s One China Policy and celebrated the upcoming milestone of sixty years of diplomatic relations, which coincides with Zambia’s own 60th anniversary of independence.
