LCC Completes Construction of Garbage Bays in Key Markets

Must read

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has finished constructing three new garbage bays in major markets, as part of its ongoing efforts to improve waste management.

Originally, the Council had budgeted for the construction of four garbage bays across Michael Chilufya Sata Market, Mobile Market, City Market, and New Soweto Market. The final expenditures were K165,530.20 for Michael Chilufya Sata Market, K180,000 for Mobile Market, K177,988.25 for City Market, and K84,296.06 for New Soweto Market.

This initiative aims to tackle the pressing issue of waste disposal and collection in these high-traffic markets. The new bays are expected to address the health risks associated with waste accumulation, which has previously led to disease outbreaks and unsanitary conditions.

The LCC is calling on vendors and shoppers to utilize these new facilities to help maintain a cleaner and healthier market environment, thereby preventing potential disease outbreaks like cholera.
