Zambia is expected to continue experiencing very high temperatures until mid-week amid rainfall in parts of the country during the same period, the Meteorological Department has advised.
In its Weather Alert and Advisory for the period September 30 to October 5, the Met explained that the high temperatures being experienced in most parts of the country should last until October 3.
Zambia has been riding a heat wave as temperatures have soared, exceeding 38 degrees Celsius in certain parts of the country with the valley areas enduring as high as 41 degrees Celsius.
“Rainfall activities have been observed in the northern parts of the country and are expected to occur in most parts of Northwestern Province, including the northern parts of Luapula and Northern provinces from 30th September to 2nd October 2024,” the advisory read.
Partly cloudy weather, stronger winds, and a temporary reduction in temperatures in most parts of the country are expected to follow thereafter as a strong high-pressure system over the south-eastern coast of South Africa induces strong, cool, and moist airflow over Zambia.
This will also cause isolated rainfall in some parts of Eastern, Muchinga, and Central provinces.
Members of the public have been advised to stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight, and open areas while farmers are urged to secure their harvested crops to avoid damage from the anticipated rains.
