Construction on the Kasomeno-Mwenda Road and toll gates in Luapula Province is advancing well. Significant progress has been made on the embankments at the bridge sites over the Chalwe and Luongo rivers, and major culvert construction is also underway.
This expansion of work reflects the strong commitment from both the Government of the Republic of Zambia and the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Additionally, Groupe Europeen de Development (GED) Projects has signed a Concession Agreement with the Zambian Government to finance, design, build, operate, and maintain the toll gates on the Kasomeno-Mwenda Road, which will include a One Stop Border Post (OSBP) and a bridge across the Luapula River. GED will also undertake similar projects on the DRC side.
The overall project scope involves constructing 92 kilometers of road in Zambia and 94 kilometers in the DRC, a 345-meter cable-stayed bridge across the Luapula River, and the OSBP with necessary parking and warehousing facilities, as well as toll plazas and weighbridges. Once completed, this infrastructure will enhance connectivity within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and is expected to create numerous jobs for local communities during and after construction.
