In an effort to improve road safety on Chirundu Road (T2S) in Southern Province, the Road Development Agency (RDA) has completed the rehabilitation of the arrestor bed and installed new signage and road markings.
An arrestor bed is designed to stop runaway vehicles, and the RDA has replaced old sand with river sand to restore its effectiveness. The newly installed road signs and painted lines enhance visibility for motorists.
To further promote safety, an arrestor bed road sign was strategically placed on September 16, 2024, alerting approaching motorists and heavy goods vehicles in advance.
The road has faced significant vandalism, particularly along escarpment sections, resulting in the loss of several signs. However, motorists have expressed satisfaction with the recent improvements, noting that the new signage and markings help them better identify the arrestor bed, fostering greater caution, especially among heavy goods vehicle operators.
