Minister of Health Elijah Muchima has called for a comprehensive investigation into the recent sighting of a Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) distribution truck allegedly offloading health kits in Lusaka’s Kanyama area.
According to ZANIS, Dr. Muchima revealed that the incident took place on September 17, when a distribution truck was seen transferring ZAMMSA health centre kits into a ZAMMSA Land Cruiser.
Bradley Chingobe, ZAMMSA’s senior corporate communication manager, confirmed that community members observed this suspicious activity. He emphasized that the procedure requires health centre kits to be offloaded within ZAMMSA premises and accompanied by a manifest detailing the stock movement.
“This incident raises concerns of foul play,” Chingobe stated. “We commend the Kanyama community for their vigilance in reporting these irregularities involving ZAMMSA drivers.”
During an impromptu visit to ZAMMSA offices alongside Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for Technical Services Kennedy Lishimpi, Dr. Muchima warned of severe consequences for any officers found involved in the alleged theft.
