The Zambia Police Service has addressed the recent case involving Tumiya Nachivula, 19, reported missing on October 5, 2024. Her elder sister, Monica Makasa, reported her alleged abduction at Chilenje Police Station, leading to widespread social media reports.
Following an extensive investigation, police tracked Ms. Nachivula’s phone to Chongwe District, but were unable to locate her as her phone was switched off. Fortunately, she returned home on October 7, 2024. It was revealed that her disappearance was fabricated; she had willingly left to be with her boyfriend, Joel Saili, 20, a student at Chalimbana University.
Both have been detained and face potential charges. The Zambia Police warn against false claims, stressing that such actions waste resources and incite public panic. Misleading the police is a serious offense, and those found guilty will face prosecution.
Citizens are urged to report only genuine cases to ensure community safety.
