The Zambian government, through the Road Development Agency (RDA), is constructing the country’s first Weigh-in-Motion (WIM) weighbridge in Nakonde District, Muchinga Province.
Located at the T2/D1 (Mbala Road) intersection, the weighbridge will cover a concrete pavement area of 45,300 square meters. It will feature advanced WIM sensors capable of detecting overloaded vehicles, which will then be redirected to a static weighbridge for weight verification.
Once verified, overloaded vehicles will be charged at the office and sent to a holding area to transfer excess freight to another vehicle. Additionally, street lighting will be installed on all related roads and links.
Construction is progressing smoothly, with an anticipated completion date of December 2024.
