First Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Malungo Chisangano, has postponed a ruling regarding the status of nine expelled Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Patriotic Front (PF).
Katombora MP Clement Andeleki raised a point of order, referencing a Constitutional Court ruling involving the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) and Belemu Sibanze, which indicates that the MPs should remain expelled.
On July 2, 2024, a previous ruling by Second Deputy Speaker Moses Moyo, following a point of order from Minister of Information and Media Cornelius Mweetwa, declared vacancies in the constituencies of the nine MPs: Ronald Chitotela (Pambashe), Nickson Chilangwa (Kawambwa), Christopher Kang’ombe (Kamfinsa), Emmanuel Musonda (Lupososhi), Remember Mutale (Chitambo), Brian Mundubile (Mporokoso), Stephen Kampyongo (Shiwang’andu), Mulenga Fube (Chilubi), and Mutotwe Kafwaya (Lunte).
Chisangano stated, “I reserve the ruling to enable me to study the document and other relevant information cited by the honourable member, and then I will return to this House with an informed ruling in due course.”
