The Zambia Correctional Service has announced its intention to complete the construction of chiefs’ palaces, currently at roof level, by December 2024. Commissioner-General Fredrick Chilukutu confirmed that palaces not yet at this stage are expected to be finished and occupied by April 2025.
During a recent tour of the construction sites for Senior Chief Shakumbila, Chief Mulendema, and Chief Kaindu in Mumbwa District, Chilukutu expressed satisfaction with the progress made thus far. He noted that the three palaces visited are approximately 70% complete and highlighted that there are about 14 palaces in Central Province, all of which have reached the roofing stage, with plastering and additional work now underway.
Mr Chilukutu expressed optimism that the palaces would soon be fully outfitted, including wiring, plastering, and flooring. “Our goal is to have the palaces currently at roof level occupied by the end of December this year, while the others are projected for completion by April 2025,” he stated.
