The Economic and Financial Crimes Court has revealed that Chipata town clerk Aaron Kamalondo and mayor George Mwanza were allegedly promised incentives by a company bidding to supply a grader and compactor to the city council, funded by the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Former council procurement officer Cecilia Phiri testified that engineering director Muyunda Muyambango instructed her to favor CAMCO Equipment Limited during the evaluation process due to these promises.
Kamalondo and head of procurement Harriet Mwape face charges of violating public procurement guidelines related to the awarding and cancellation of the CDF contract. Both have pleaded not guilty and are currently appearing before Lusaka senior resident magistrate Trevor Kasanda in Chipata.
