In a significant move to enhance education in his community, Charles Lubasi Milupi, Member of Parliament for Limulunga and village headman of Lutongo, has announced that he will use his entire mid-term gratuity to construct an ultra-modern school for children in his village and nearby areas.
Milupi, currently overseeing the construction of a double-storey school block and staff accommodation, aims to provide accessible education for local children who have previously faced challenges due to long distances to the nearest school.
“I am committed to ensuring that our children have access to quality education,” Milupi stated during a recent inspection of the construction site. His childhood experience of navigating streams and canals to attend a distant school has deeply influenced his dedication to this project.
The funding for this multi-million kwacha initiative will not only come from his MP gratuity but also from personal income, including proceeds from his maize farm in Nkeyema district. So far, Milupi has allocated approximately K2 million to the Zambia National Service for the construction of an embankment, addressing the frequent flooding in the Barotse Floodplains.
“This school will operate even during floods, allowing our children to continue their education without disruption,” he added. Milupi emphasized that this project represents his legacy, ensuring that future generations have improved access to education in Lutongo Village and the surrounding regions.
He expressed gratitude to his family, particularly his wife, for their support in this important endeavor.
