Former Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo has been convicted by the Luanshya Magistrate Court on one count of unlawful wounding. The judgment, delivered in absentia by Magistrate Penstone Chiluba, has resulted in a bench warrant for Lusambo’s arrest.
Lusambo, who previously served as the Kabushi Member of Parliament, faced charges related to the unlawful wounding and assault of two members of the National Democratic Congress. The court found that on April 11, 2019, Lusambo attacked Stanley Musukwa, a 58-year-old NDC member, with a machete, inflicting severe head and facial injuries.
In his ruling, Magistrate Chiluba reviewed evidence from both the prosecution and defense, including a medical report corroborating Musukwa’s injuries as consistent with a sharp weapon. Testimonies from law enforcement and other witnesses identified Lusambo as the assailant at the crime scene.
Lusambo’s sentencing will take place once he is apprehended and brought before the court. In a related charge of assault against another complainant, Mary Musonda, Magistrate Chiluba acquitted Lusambo, citing insufficient evidence from the prosecution team led by Morgan Shatembo.
Originally set for September 9, 2024, the judgment was delayed due to Lusambo’s failure to appear in court. His legal counsel, Joshua Njovu of Kayuni and Associates, has since withdrawn representation.
